Cashing Big Cheques is Fun!!!

The only thing better than receiving a GIANT cheque for $25,000 is giving one! Our team had worked hard all year to put on events like the Charity Pong Tournament, Stampede Whoop Up and the first Annual Unique Scaffold Slo-Pitch Tourney to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities® Southern Alberta.

During the Christmas Party in December 2014, President and CEO Jason Procyk challenged the entire company to help raise $25,000 for this amazing charity and the team answered the call! Through team events and company contests, we were able to reach that goal and present the Ronald McDonald House with a Big Fat Cheque…literally.

We are proud to be involved with a charity that does truly amazing work. Here is a little about the charity and how they help families.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® Southern Alberta provides a home away from home for out-of-town families with sick children receiving medical attention in a Calgary hospital. Though the House has grown and changed since opening in 1985, the purpose remains the same – keeping families together in a compassionate and comfortable, home-like atmosphere.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® Southern Alberta is inviting, yet secure; welcoming, yet private. It is a place for entire families to use, enabling them to keep their lives moving forward as normally as possible – despite their medical crisis. The new Alberta Children’s Hospital provides a growing opportunity for Ronald McDonald House Charities® Southern Alberta by:

  • Utilizing the land across from the new Alberta Children’s Hospital granted to the House by the Calgary Health Region and the University of Calgary
  • Accommodating the growing demand driven by the Alberta Children’s Hospital
  • Creating an affordable family-focused residence with specialized programs and a unique design
  • Providing continual support for families moving forward as normally as possible despite their medical crisis

The House can accommodate up to 23 families, each with their own suite and private bath, while sharing kitchen facilities and common areas. Although occupancy is not based on financial need, a nightly fee is purposely kept at a low rate to make it an affordable option for all families wanting to be close to their ill family member. More than 18,000 families have stayed at the House since it opened. It is one of 14 Houses across Canada and one of over 300 around the world.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® Southern Alberta is a non-profit organization owned and operated by the Southern Alberta Pediatric Hostel Society.
